8 Self Care Routines to Get Into This Summer

Winters are cold and dreary. They don’t exactly inspire motivation. As such, it’s not uncommon for them to force us into ruts.

Summer, on the other hand, is a time of inspiration. It’s an ideal time to get up and try new things.

Are you hoping to use this summer to inspire better self-care routines? Looking for some exercises to implement? Keep reading to learn eight ways to take care of yourself this summer!

1. Clean the House

We know, we know. Cleaning the house doesn’t sound like a great way to treat yourself. But hear us out for a second.

While cleaning might not necessarily inspire good feelings in you (although it could), it will result in something beneficial: reducing clutter in your home. And seeing as clutter is bad for one’s mental health, any act of reducing clutter is good.

Now, this doesn’t mean that you should be obsessive about cleaning. That would defeat the purpose entirely. But it wouldn’t be wrong to schedule at least one cleaning session weekly.

2. Go for a Leisurely Stroll

It is essential to exercise regularly and get out of the house every once in a while. As such, you should consider adding strolls to your routine. For example, a relaxed walk around the neighborhood before work could go a long way in getting your day off to a good start.

Put on some headphones, turn on some music or a podcast, put one foot in front of the other, and enjoy your surroundings. You’ll stimulate both your body and your mind.

3. Vary Your Shower Temperatures

When you get home after a long day of work, there’s nothing much better than a hot shower. Hot water not only feels good against the skin but also helps to loosen up the muscles and joints.

That said, you shouldn’t settle for hot water alone. Instead, it would help if you looked to the opposite end of the spectrum, dousing yourself with ice-cold water before getting out and drying yourself off.

Chilled water can shock the human body . . . in a good way. It releases endorphins within the body, similar to an antidepressant.

4. Volunteer!

Another component you should add to your self-care routine is volunteering. By volunteering your time, you not only help others but yourself as well. After all, what better way to feel good about yourself than to make a difference in the world?

There are all sorts of volunteering opportunities available. For example, you could volunteer at a soup kitchen, join Habitat for Humanity, donate old clothing, and participate in various other activities.

Work at least one volunteer activity into your weekly schedule if you can. But, of course, make sure to honor your commitments as well. Volunteering should not overrule your responsibilities or your personal life.

5. Drink Up

We know we need to drink water. However, so many of us fail to drink it in adequate amounts.

The result? Lethargy, lightheadedness, weakness, and general discomfort. And as you well know, that’s no way to go through life.

You must ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. To ensure that you do this, carry a water bottle with you and fill it up at the top of every hour. By doing so, you’re sure to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

6. Schedule Free Time

Adult life is filled with responsibility. Between going to work, taking care of the kids, paying bills, and tending to your other obligations, you don’t get much time to sit back and relax.

That said, you must know: relaxation time is vital. Open free time allows you to pursue cherished hobbies and recharge your mental batteries, helping you get up and do it again the next day.

For this reason, it’s recommended that you make free time part of your daily schedule. Then, if you treat it like all your other obligations, you’ll be sure to tend to it.

7. Invest in the Protection of Your Eyes

Few body parts are as vital to joy and happiness as the eyes. Our eyes are our windows to the world. They allow us to take in the beauty that surrounds us . . . but not if they’re damaged.

As such, as part of your self-care routine, you should be investing in proper eye protection. This includes wearing hats, sunglasses, and other protective entities, as they can protect your eyes from both UV rays and direct physical trauma.

8. Take Advantage of Aromatherapy

Did you know that different scents have different effects on the human mind? Whereas some fragrances can cause chaos within the psyche, others can induce relaxation. As part of your self-care routine, you should take advantage of the latter.

Some scents to utilize include chamomile, patchouli, cedarwood, rose, and peach, to name just a few. These scents can be produced from candles to essential oil diffusers to incense. Get these entities going as soon as you wake up, and you’ll start your day on the right foot.

These Self Care Routines Can Make a World of Difference

Life isn’t all about work and stress. However, from time to time, you need to show yourself a little attention. And if you’re looking to treat yourself this summer, these self-care routines will help you to do so.
