These Are the Common Types of Websites for Businesses

Did you know that 36% of small businesses in the US don’t have a website? Every year, it becomes less and less excusable not to have a website. On top of that, though, not all websites are created equal. There are several different types of websites for businesses that serve different purposes.

Websites for Businesses

Let’s look at common business websites and find out which ones might make sense for your business.

E-Commerce Site

An e-commerce website is probably the website you think of when you imagine business websites.

This is a website whose intended purpose is to sell products. Websites like Amazon are e-commerce websites.

Everything about an e-commerce site is designed to encourage the visitor to buy a product from you. Whether the site is set up to sell one specific product or as a marketplace of millions of products, they all share this common goal.

Whether you have a brick-and-mortar store or your operation is entirely online, an e-commerce website can make a lot of sense.

There are even different types of e-commerce sites.

One type is Business to Business (B2B), where services and goods are purchased by one company from another. Another type is Business-to-Consumer (B2C), where consumers purchase services and goods from a company.

Another kind of e-commerce website is Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C). This is one good, and services are bought and sold between consumers through an electronic transaction, generally via 1/3 party. An example would be if you were using eBay or Craigslist to sell some of your own items.

Lastly, there are Consumer-to-Business (C2B) e-commerce websites. This is where consumers offer services or products to companies. An example of this will be if a social media influencer offers to promote a product to their followers in exchange for a fee.

Branding Site

Creating a brand personality and brand recognition is more important now than ever. For this reason, many companies create branding websites filled with information about a company, service, and/or product.

These websites aim to get the word out about their brand and increase name recognition.

While some companies might not think brand awareness is important, there’s an increasing understanding that brand awareness and familiarity should come before anything else.

Brand familiarity is a process. It is when a company creates brand presence by providing value, awareness, accessibility, emotional connection, and relevant differentiation for the target audience.

Before you build your brand website, you’ll want to define your brand personality. Your brand personality is much like the personality of a human. The five main brand personality types include sincerity, sophistication, ruggedness, competence, and excitement.

You’ll want your individual text choices consistent with your brand personality throughout your website.

Lead Generation Site

Regeneration is an important part of any business. A lead generation website might be right for your business if you are trying to develop a deeper relationship with your audience or bring people into a sales funnel.

Your website can include a form on its landing pages to generate leads.

Many of these sites include testimonials, photos, and videos to increase the credibility of the product or service.

When making a lead generation site, you want to keep your end goal in mind first. You want to define what a “lead” means to you and understand what information you are looking to get from users. It is worthwhile to put quite a bit of thought into what questions you’re asking on your forms.

Remember, people be more likely to part with their details the less information you ask for. If they come to your lead generation site and find that you are asking them to fill out 20 form slots, there is a high likelihood that they will bounce off it unless there is a very compelling reason for them not to.

Publishing Site

Is increasingly popular for companies to have publishing websites similar to blogs or news websites. The difference is that these tend to incorporate sponsored content or advertisements to generate revenue.

By providing both the content and the advertisements, these sites create a reality where the audience comes to you.

Support Site

Another type of website that larger tech companies frequently use is the support website. These exist to support services, hardware, or software that they provide.

On these websites, you’ll likely find how to contact the support department, frequently asked questions, new driver patches or software, and forums for the community.

Which Types of Websites For Businesses Make Sense For Your Business?

Not many businesses are as large as some of the tech giants out there who might have dozens of websites for various purposes.

It could make sense for you only to have one website, or it could make sense for you to have a few. Luckily, there are many affordable website options if you feel it makes sense for your business to have more than one website.
