Yes, You Can Make Distilled Water at Home (And Here’s How!)

Our bodies are approximately 60% water. Considering that, it only makes sense that we have to drink a certain amount of water each day.

As for how much to drink depends on various factors such as your weight and activity level. Generally speaking. However, you want to drink eight 8-ounce glasses.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s tap water or bottled water—as long as it’s water. Keep in mind, though, that certain types of water, such as distilled water, may have additional benefits.

What is it? Can you make it at home? Find out by reading this post!

What Is Distilled Water?

Distilled water is created through distillation. Basically, you boil water until it turns into a vapor and then condense it back into a liquid.

By doing that, you’ll remove impurities from the original water. In other words, you won’t have to worry about consuming contaminants such as heavy metals or other inorganic substances.

Benefits of Drinking Distilled Water

Distilled water may be better for you than tap water, depending on where you live. For example, it may be safer if your local water supply is tainted with pesticides or other harmful chemicals.

Note: Keep in mind, however, that the distillation process will also remove the naturally occurring minerals from water—so make sure to get them from other food sources.

How to Make Distilled Water At Home

Believe it or not but you can make your own distilled water. For example, you can use a water distiller such as those sold by rockymountainwaterdistillers.com.

Or you know, you can use your stove. All you need is a metal pot, a baking rack, and a small glass bowl for this method.

Step 1. Fill a large aluminum or stainless steel pot with tap water. Set a round baking rack inside and put a small glass bowl into the pot. You want the bowl floating in the water; it shouldn’t be touching the bottom.

Step 2. Heat the pot of water on a stove. The water needs to get very hot, but it doesn’t necessarily have to boil.

Step 3. Invert the pot lid and place it on top of the pot. From there, fill it with ice—creating a hot/cold barrier that’ll allow for condensation.

Step 4. As the water is heated, steam rises and condenses on the lid. The condensation, aka liquid water, will drip into the glass bowl inside the pot.

Step 5. Continue the distillation process. Once the bowl is full, remove the pot from the heat and take off the lid.

Step 6. Transfer the distilled water into a clean and sterile container.

Making Your Own Distilled Water

And there you have it—a short guide on how to create your own distilled water. If anything, it’s a lot simpler than you think.

Why buy distilled water when you can just create your own, right?
