Woodworking Tips and Techniques

These woodworking ideas are here to help you maximize your woodworking potential and increase your productivity. We hope these woodworking tips will help you with your next job or project you’re working on. Also, if you want to speed up productivity, it’s important to use the right tools. Consider these best equipment rentals. Let’s dive into it.

1. Use A Drafting Square

If you’re looking to shape perfect squares in the 2-3ft range or looking to cut a perfectly straight, A drafting square is the perfect tool to use. Drafting squares are normally used to measure and cut drywall but can be very useful when woodworking.

If you want to take your woodworking to the next level and want precision accuracy so all your wood pieces fit perfectly, consider using a drafting square to your advantage.

Carpenter squares are also an option, but it involves having to hook it to an edge of your workpiece, which could damage the finish.

2. Use Hot Glue

Did you think hot glue was only for little kids’ crafts? Think again! When you’re shaping, filing, or cutting something small and need to press some pieces together, use some hot glue to clamp your pieces. The great thing about hot glue is that it doesn’t permanently bond to wood.

This will give you enough holding power but still allow you to evenly loosen the hot glue without causing any damage to the wood.

3. Make Some Reusable Sanding Blocks

Using sandpaper is a great idea to get smooth edges and fine finishes when it comes to any wood project. The downside is that sandpaper can be hard to work with because of its thin, flimsy nature.

Making your own reusable sanding blocks is the best approach to sanding faster with more control of the hand. Cut a few pieces of 3/4 inch thick OSB plywood 2 1/4 wide and 5 1/2 inch long. Make these for as many common sandpaper grits as you use.

Spray adhesive on the sandpaper and the blocks of wood, and join them together. Be sure to write the sandpaper grit on the back of each block.

Cut away any excess sandpaper with a utility knife. If your sandpaper is used up, peel away the sandpaper and reuse the block.
