How Covid Changed the Emergency Services

Emergency Services

Who would have guessed that a mask would be just as essential when leaving the house as your wallet and keys? But, unfortunately, that’s the world we live in today. Just like masks become an everyday essential, we’re seeing many other sectors of life change to conform to the COVID-19 standard.

Being a front-line or essential worker is anything but easy during this global pandemic. As a result, industries are being forced to adapt in ways many don’t even realize, especially the emergency service industry.

Due to the increasingly high volume of emergency service calls, protocols and procedures have had to adapt. How? Well, it might be more drastic than you think.

Emergency Service Response

The typical 911 emergency response is changing as we know it. So a technology company called Carbyne Ltd. created a cloud-native emergency collaboration software to amp up the emergency response.

It includes audio, visual, live-streaming, exact location, and much more. Carbyne has developed this into software, as well as an app that is revolutionizing emergency response due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Protocol Changes

Unlike a typical day on the job before, first responders have a whole new component added to their job. Sanitizing ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars have become a routine.

Additionally, first responders are getting used to constantly showing up to the scene in full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Masks, face shields, gloves, gowns, and full-body hazmat suits are now part of their ritual before arriving on the scene.

First responders follow social distancing guidelines whenever possible. When not able to physically distance, good hygiene and masks are encouraged and upheld by first responders. They also follow self-isolation guidelines for those who come in contact with the virus.

Public Safety

Paramedics are experiencing an astoundingly high volume of calls. In addition, due to quarantine orders, people are spending more time doing physical activities and going outside, resulting in a higher rate of injuries and more emergency service calls.

Paramedics also explain that at the beginning of the pandemic, they received many more sick calls as a response to people attempting to avoid hospitals.

Emergency Services

Emergency service response and emergency management are critical components of disaster relief. Amongst the current global pandemic, societies worldwide rely on these services more than ever.

A lot of success in emergency response and emergency management comes from planning. The more prepared first responders are, the easier time they have controlling a situation.

As for the public, they are being disaster-ready is part of this preparedness. In addition, first responders can have many resources and tools to be prepared for these emergencies. For example, BK fire radios are radios specifically used for firefighting.
