What is Norton by Symantec?

Acknowledged cybersecurity system. Norton by Symantec is popular software that claims to be very reliable. When we visited the website, the first thing that caught our attention was its focus on personal security. So, in addition to protecting our computers. They claim to protect me from identity theft.

They recently changed ownership to Broadcom Inc., so now their product is called NortonLifeLock. But when we mention them, I’ll use the name from the beginning of this article. Based in the United States and other countries, this company has been in the industry for a long time.

What exactly does Norton by Symantec do?

They protect computers from online threats like viruses, malware, and phishing. The biggest feature of Norton by Symantec is protecting our data as a customer. That means they use various tools and protocols to do this. When we logged in, they asked for different personal data. It would help if you did this because that’s the way to protect yourself. Some of the data is:

Social Security.

Driver’s license.

Date of birth.

Current address.

Telephone number.

E-mail address.

They scan the dark web for people who are using the personal data we provide. It also communicates with the three major credit rating agencies. They identify unusual activities in the bank account. Looks for requests to change email or USPS address. It also uses a multi-layered VPN and has parental controls.

How much does it cost?

Compared to other similar systems, the price is average. But to be honest, it’s quite a bit of money. You have to pay $149.99 for a year of service in the most basic version. The premium version costs $349.99. And there’s an intermediate option of $249.99. The biggest difference between the three is the number of devices we can protect.

But for Norton 360, you have to pay an additional $50 to get NortonLifeLock. There are no discount options anywhere. Nor are there any discounts for sharing the software with friends. Although it is worth mentioning that there is no limit on the computers for the more expensive version, you can protect it. There are other, cheaper software that offers similar defenses. But they are not as protective as this one.

Is it reliable?

Claiming to protect me from identity theft is a lot. So we can say they’re exaggerating the truth. The right thing to say would be that they monitor the Internet very well for fraud in our name. But this is no small matter. According to their website, there are 27 cybercrime victims every second. So there’s no shortage of protection.

I didn’t find any major complaints that reflected the company’s weaknesses. They don’t provide much information about the support of VPN networks. Even though we never experienced any problems with broadband. There’s no guarantee that your internet will be smooth if you do many things online, like playing games, listening to music, and downloading a large file at the same time.

Advantages

VPN to protect Wi-Fi connections.

Parental controls to protect children while they use (or learn to use) the Internet.

Personal data tracking to act quickly against identity fraud.

Protection against online threats such as viruses, malware, and phishing

Logging in from the website or software

Shared login with company member for assistance

Online and telephone customer support

Can be used on Windows, iOS, macOS, and Android

Nearly 50 million people use this service.

Disadvantages

Protecting against viruses is not their specialty.

They are in the process of administrative change, hopefully not affecting the product.

The price could be out of reach for many people.

The claim that they protect against identity theft is not correct.

I can’t have a backup or parental control on macOS devices.

On iOS devices, security protection is limited.

Verdict

After the merger, it seems that the intention of Norton by Symantec is to maintain its quality. It is one of the best tools you can get in data protection. Additionally, it offers protection against viruses and other online threats. The price may indeed be a little high. But it competes with other similar providers.

It would be good if they changed their statement to one that makes us understand the degree of protection they offer. An important fact is that they cover attorney’s fees of up to $25,000 and another $25,000 in fraudulent purchases. And the coverage could be as high as $1 million in some cases. If you need protection for a few devices, you may want to look at other options.
